Frequently Asked Questions
What is going to change at the golf course?
We are planning two phases of work:

Phase 1 - Golf Course: Complete renovation of the golf course, driving range, practice areas, and related spaces around the facility
Phase 2 - Building: Construction of a new building including a clubhouse, office, community room, and an interpretive history of Maggie Hathaway and the course; also includes demolition of existing buildings and reconfiguration of the entry
Why? What makes it better and worth all the money and effort?
Phase 1 - Golf Course:
-
The course hasn’t been improved much since it opened in 1962. The new Gil Hanse design will be beautiful, more interesting and engaging and improve course sustainability.
-
The driving range will “flip” directions, get longer, taller, and have more stalls. It will serve more people, be more accessible and closer to the clubhouse, and allow for a wide range of skills, from beginners to advanced.
-
Practice areas will be enlarged: a 30% larger putting green with bentgrass and multiple hole locations and a brand new chipping green
Phase 2 - Building:
-
The new building will provide places for community gatherings, including a new café and a multipurpose community room for classes, meetings, and events. It will also become the home for new programs to grow the game of golf for the community.
Who is paying for this renewal project? Do you have all the funding necessary?
The project was started with a funding commitment from the Fore Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit organization established as part of the Los Angeles Country Club’s (LACC) hosting of the 123rd U.S. Open in 2023 and comprised of community golf advocates from the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA), LACC, and SCGA’s Junior Golf Foundation. Fund-raising has exceeded $10 million and is ongoing.

When will it start and how long will the project take?
Phase 1 is scheduled to begin around the start of 2025 and we plan to reopen the course in the fall of 2025.
Phase 2 depends on fundraising.
Will prices to golf and hit balls on the range increase due to this project?
