Maggie Hathaway Golf Course
Renewal Project
About the Project

To get more involved or contribute, go to foreyouth.org
Since it opened in 1962, the Maggie Hathaway Golf Course has thrived as a center for aspiring golfers and building community.

The Fore Youth: 2023 U.S. Open Community Legacy campaign, led by the SCGA, USGA and The Los Angeles Country Club (LACC), has raised over $8M for the project to create a community legacy benefiting underserved and underrepresented youth.
The Maggie Hathaway course is a County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation facility, and in October 2024, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an investment of $7.8 million from the 2024-2025 Supplemental Budget for its renovation.
This proposed project will provide new and improved facilities and resources, while honoring the trailblazing legacy of performing artist, community activist, and golf pioneer, Maggie Hathaway.

The Proposed Renewal Project:
-
Renovated Golf Course, Enhanced Driving Range, Practice Facilities, and new Landscaping
-
New Clubhouse with Community Center + Youth Enrichment Lab + Golf Shop
-
Expanded Junior Golf Programming

Announcements
February 2026: We're pleased to report solid progress in the renewal of Maggie Hathaway Golf Course. The new 12,000-square-foot practice green is thriving, with strong roots supporting future play. Grow-in is right on track.

Players will soon have access to the new chipping area surrounding this massive practice green. The sand bunker on the north side is just a few steps from the new driving range. The range has been equipped with additional mats and will improve course flow being next to the first tee.

Please note: Maggie Hathaway Golf Course remains closed while the grow-in continues. Thanks for your patience!

December 2025/January 2026: The course is now 100% sodded with grow-in continuing into the early spring. We are excited to share some new updates from across the course:

Hole 1: A Stunning Transformation
The first hole at Maggie Hathaway Golf Course showcases the dramatic changes across all nine holes. Extensive tree work has opened up sweeping views of downtown Los Angeles, the Griffith Park Observatory, and even the Hollywood Sign.
The course now feels more open and expansive, creating an entirely new experience when the course opens later this spring.

Rainfall puts Maggie Hathaway Golf Course to the Test
The excessive rainfall over the past couple of months has been a great test for the course. Mid-November brought 5.25 inches of rain, and the storms over Christmas and New Year delivered the same amount. Thanks to sand incorporated into the top couple of inches throughout the course, drainage has proven highly successful—keeping the course relatively dry even after heavy rains like these.

November 2025: The grow-in process is well underway across the course and driving range, and we can’t wait to welcome golfers back early next year. Take a look below for a first glimpse of each newly renovated hole.
Renovation highlights include the addition of sustainable sandy waste areas, natural grass tees to go along with mats, and larger greens that provide more varied hole locations for golfers.
The new driving range experience will be more accessible, with the tees moved closer to the clubhouse and adjacent to the first hole.
