Monthly Progress Updates

November 2025:  The grow-in process is well underway across the course and driving range, and we can’t wait to welcome golfers back early next year. Take a look below for a first glimpse of each newly renovated hole.

Renovation highlights include the addition of sustainable sandy waste areas, natural grass tees to go along with mats, and larger greens that provide more varied hole locations for golfers.

The new driving range experience will be more accessible, with the tees moved closer to the clubhouse and adjacent to the first hole.

Timeline Update: We know many of you are excited to get back out on the course, and we can’t wait to welcome you again. Unfortunately, due to factors outside of our control, the reopening of Maggie Hathaway Golf Course has been delayed.

The course is now expected to reopen in the first quarter of 2026.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these final steps. Our goal is to make sure the course is in the best possible shape when the gates open again, and we’re excited to share the improvements with you.

Thank you for being such a supportive community — we’ll continue to keep you updated along the way.

October 2025:  Progress continues steadily on the driving range construction. The contractor has installed 11 new poles, and all existing poles have been freshly painted—making it nearly impossible to distinguish the latest from the original.

Irrigation and golf course construction contractors have both returned to the site to complete work on the driving range and practice greens. The irrigation team has begun installing the new system, starting from the back (now the west side) of the range. Meanwhile, the golf course contractor is focusing on the sandy waste areas and will soon begin work on the concrete pads located behind each tee complex across all holes.

Utility relocation is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Demolition of the old buildings is scheduled to begin in October, marking another major phase in this extensive renovation effort.

September 2025: Construction on holes 1–9 is complete, and those areas are now in the grow-in stage while work continues on the driving range and practice greens. As progress moves forward, we’re excited to showcase the new landscape features you’ll see throughout the course.

The updated design incorporates Southern California native plants that combine natural beauty with low-maintenance care. Beyond their visual impact, these plants provide important benefits:

  • Pollinator Friendly: Flowers attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators, supporting a thriving ecosystem.

  • Drought Tolerant: Once established, they require less water and care, making them well suited to our warm climate.

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Bold shapes and a variety of colors enhance the beauty of the course year-round.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ken Alperstein of Pinnacle Design for generously donating the landscape design services that brought this vision to life.

August 2025:  As progress continues across all areas of the property, we’re pleased to provide the latest updates on course conditioning, construction timelines, and landscaping:

  • Course Conditioning: The bentgrass greens are progressing well and are currently being mowed just slightly above the final target height. Players can expect green speeds to roll around 10 feet on the Stimpmeter on most days, offering a smooth and consistent putting surface. All other turfgrass areas have been planted with hybrid bermudagrass. These areas are being maintained just above ½-inch, which aligns with the planned height-of-cut at course opening.

  • Course Opening & Clubhouse: We are still targeting a late fall 2025 opening for the course. Clubhouse plans are being finalized, with construction expected to begin in early 2026.

  • Landscaping: The native landscape is maturing beautifully, as shown in the latest photos. The sandy waste areas are filling in, with blue grama grass dominating the palette, and purple three-awn and buffalo grass adding natural variety and texture throughout the site.

  • Driving Range: Construction on the driving range is anticipated to begin within the next six weeks. Once complete, the range will include:

    • 20 mats — nearly double the previous number

    • Flipped orientation, with the tee relocated to the east end of the range

    • Target greens designed to match the feel and design of the greens on the course

    • Extended length to nearly 130 yards, enhancing the overall practice experience

July 2025:  We're happy to share some fantastic progress at Maggie Hathaway Golf Course as we continue to revitalize and elevate your playing experience:

  • Holes 1–9 have been completely sodded, giving the course a fresh, lush look after Hanse Golf Design worked their magic.

  • Greens are being carefully mowed slightly above the normal height as part of the grow-in process. This helps ensure strong, healthy turf that will deliver exceptional putting surfaces in the long run.

  • Fairways and tees are now being mowed close to their final height, offering a preview of the smooth, consistent playability we’re aiming for throughout the course.

  • All sandy waste areas have been hydro-seeded, helping to stabilize these spaces and blend them beautifully into the natural landscape. Please note that the seed will take approximately 14–21 days to germinate.

  • Sand topdressing has been completed across the entire course—including greens, tees, and fairways. This important step helps level the new sod, reduce organic buildup, and improve water infiltration for long-term turf health.

  • All new landscape material has been planted and is growing in beautifully, adding visual interest and enhancing the natural charm of the course.

  • A revamped driving range and new practice putting greens are on the way! While we’re still working through the final permitting, we’re optimistic about completing these areas in the coming months.

June 2025:  We're excited to share two significant milestones in the Maggie Hathaway Golf Course Renewal Project. As of this month, all greenside bunkers have been fully shaped and constructed with best-in-class practices to ensure long-term performance and playability. We have also moved into the beginning of the grow-in phase with large areas being sodded starting May 21st. Key accomplishments include: â€‹

  • Internal Drainage Installed: High-performance drainage systems have been installed in each bunker to ensure quick water removal and reduce maintenance.

  • Gravel Backfill and Bunker Liner: A gravel layer and a premium bunker liner have been added to prevent sand contamination and extend the life of the bunkers.

  • Fescue Grasses Planted: Native-style fescue grasses have been planted around bunker faces, adding texture, beauty, and a natural transition into the course landscape.

  • Sand Placement Finalized: With high-quality bunker sand now installed, these features are ready for finishing touches and grow-in.

The greens on holes 4, 5, and 6 and the nursery green have been sodded with Pure Distinction bentgrass, which is known for its smooth surface and excellent playability.

May 2025:  We are happy to share that the six bunkers have all been shaped and fitted with a completed drainage system. A bunker liner has been installed, consisting of two inches of gravel topped with a sprayed polymer. This modern liner helps keep the bunker sand clean, allows it to play drier, and prevents washouts during heavy rain.

The first shipment of sod is expected to arrive and be installed during the week of May 19. Meanwhile, sand is being worked into the top four inches of soil to improve its structure, enhance water infiltration, and create a healthier growing environment for turf.

Mainline installation of the irrigation will be completed in the first two weeks of April and controller installation is beginning. A new backflow device has been installed at the point of connection on the northeast corner of the property.

February 2025: Golf course construction is moving along, with the tree trimming and removals. Architect Gil Hanse was onsite shaping greens on holes 1 and 3, which look like they are going to be fun and challenging. The team is continuing the shaping which will bring the new course layout to life.
